Welcome Social 2016/17

Last night saw many of UCL’s speech and language therapy students attending the first UCLU Giving Voice Society event of 2016/17. Not only did we welcome in a new cohort of students, but it was an amazing opportunity to spread the message about everything Giving Voice stands for.

We were completely overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of so many of our budding speech and language therapists: the drive to increase understanding of our role as SLTs, and to also promote awareness of speech, language and communication needs (‘SLCN’) and swallowing difficulties (‘dysphagia’) was immense. Of course we couldn’t let this passion go to waste!

Armed with our UCLU Giving Voice ‘Challenge Bag’, the committee encouraged the society’s potential new members to take on various challenges to spread this all-important awareness outside of our speech and language field ‘bubble’. We will be sharing their journeys across our social media pages, so keep your eyes peeled between now and 4th November to see how they get on (not to mention, the best entires will be in the running for a very special prize…).

If you missed the event – do not fear. Giving Voice will be at UCL’s Welcome Fair (1st-2nd October) armed with fun activities, and we’re keen to talk to you and help you get involved with us this year.

It needn’t take long to help spread awareness.
Take 5 minutes today to discuss with a friend about what communication means to you, and how you’d feel if your ability to communicate suddenly changed.
If you’re feeling inspired, why not try one of our challenges from the photo below?
