Our recent event ‘Express BSL’ in collaboration with UCLU Sign Language Society was a roaring success! Several staff and students gathered in Chandler House to learn some basic British sign language, taught by members of UCLU Sign language society. The aim of the session was to firstly raise awareness of how problems with communication can affect deaf people every day and how having even a basic understanding of sign language can really make a difference to their lives. Topics covered included greetings, numbers, introductions, and of course, the all-important finger spelling! The event also rose over £50 for the sign language society which will go towards providing classes and exams in BSL to UCL students. UCLU Giving Voice would like to thank everyone that came along, as well as UCLUSLS for their help and brilliant teaching!
